New Scholar in Residence — Dr. Trey Nation

We are delighted to share some exciting news with you. This past spring, many of you participated in our pilot Coffee & Catechesis, a 4 week series on "Learning to Love the Old Testament” led by Dr. Trey Nation. That season was a fruitful one - for our congregation, and for our leadership's discernment - and after prayerful consideration, the Session is excited to welcome Trey to our Staff Team as our new Scholar in Residence this July. 

In this role, Trey will help lead and develop our church’s catechesis and adult education ministry, working alongside our pastors to help equip our congregation to love Scripture, grow in theological literacy, and be formed as disciples of Christ. His work brings the riches of seminary-level scholarship into the everyday life of our local church.

Trey grew up in Atlanta, GA, and initially moved to the Boston area in 2011 to study at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Trey and his wife Hannah remained in the area while he did his PhD in Assyriology at Harvard, and their daughters Verity and Clemence were both born in Cambridge. After a few years living in Pittsburgh, PA, the Nations returned to Boston in 2024 so Trey could take a job as assistant professor of Old Testament and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Gordon-Conwell. The Nations live in Peabody, MA, and have absolutely loved getting drawn in to the Citylife family. They are excited to begin serving the church body in new ways as Trey begins teaching in his capacity as scholar in residence!
