Membership & Baptism
The Christian life was always meant to be lived in community. Jesus Christ died not only to save sinners, but to gather together a people for Himself (Eph. 2:19-22) with whom we can practice and receive care, encouragement, and accountability as we follow Him. At Citylife, we believe membership is a way to live out that calling. By joining, members are committing to belong to our church as their spiritual home and family where you can grow in your faith, use your gifts, receive care, and serve others.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER AT CITYLIFE
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Member at Citylife. Below are the steps to becoming a member at Citylife.
-
Our membership classes provide an overview of Citylife - our vision, beliefs, and our life together as a community. We invite you to explore what it means to belong and grow together in Christ as a member of our Citylife family. If you are interested in baptism, membership, or confirmation, please register to attend the two-part class using the links below.
-
Fill out a membership application! This application gives you the chance to share about your journey of faith and involvement at Citylife, review the membership vows, and note any questions or topics you’d like to discuss with a Citylife elder.
-
As part of the membership process, you’ll meet with an elder to talk through your application and what membership at Citylife involves. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions and get more clarity about our church. Once you’ve completed the first two steps, a staff member will contact you to schedule your interview.
-
If you are a member of another church, please submit a membership transfer letter from your previous church to office@citylifeboston.org (if applicable).
-
Membership becomes official through an act of public commitment. Once the elders review and approve your application, you’ll take membership vows alongside others in worship. If you have not yet been baptized, you’ll also receive baptism as part of the service. You can read more about baptism below.

COMMUNICANTS
Confirmation is an important step for young people who were baptized as infants to publicly profess their personal faith in Jesus Christ. They affirm the promises made on their behalf at baptism and are welcomed as full, active members of the church. It is both a joyful declaration of faith and an opportunity for the congregation to support and pray for their continued growth in Christ. We offer a separate communicants class for youth or older children every spring semester. Please contact cecily@citylifeboston.org for more information.
BAPTISM
Baptism
Baptism is a sacrament from Jesus to His church, a visible sign and seal of the gospel that points us to God’s promise of forgiveness and new life in Him. At Citylife, we baptize both infants and adults, as a way of showing that God’s grace welcomes us before we could ever earn it. In baptism, we are marked as belonging to God and set apart for life in His covenant family. If you are interested in baptism, membership, or confirmation, please register to attend the two-part membership class using the links above.
Infant Baptism
Infant baptism is a sign and seal of God’s covenant of grace, marking the children of believing parents as part of the covenant community. It reminds us that God’s promises extend not only to us but also to our children, calling them to grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Parents present their children in faith, trusting God’s promises, while the congregation commits to come alongside them in raising their child in Christ.
Infant baptisms are scheduled three times each year, on the second Sunday of October, February, and June. Members who wish for their child to be baptized are encouraged to complete the form below in order to schedule their child’s baptism.
