What are Community Meals?

Community Meals are gatherings across the city in each other’s homes, feasting on delicious food and getting to know people in our church community that we might not normally cross paths with. Meals will be casual potlucks; people will sign up ahead of time and be randomly assigned a location.

Why are we doing this?

“Citylife seeks to be a diverse community of grace that makes disciples of Jesus for the renewal of Boston and our neighbors."

“to be a diverse community of grace”

Through these dinners, we hope to bring together diverse groups of our church to spend quality time over food. As we seek to grow to be a warm and welcoming church, community-building activities must be inclusive towards people from every age-group, socioeconomic class, and background. Everyone needs to eat! And food is one of the many important ways that God brings us together in reliance on Him – feasting is, in fact, a habit of grace!

“disciples of Jesus for…our neighbors”

Discipleship is about training people up, then sending them out. As we grow in hospitality as a church – as you are challenged to invite people into your home or to engage in an intentional meal with people you don’t know as well – let’s not forget that discipleship doesn’t stop at the scope of Citylife. As Christians, we are not only called to build community with friends and believers, but also with neighbors and non-believers. We pray that God will use these meals to orient our hearts and efforts towards welcoming our neighbors with the same love that we experience from God through our church community.

How can I participate?

Providing a space as a host, contributing to the potluck, offering rides to other attendees, or even just being fully present during the conversation!

Hospitality is not the same as entertaining. It is not only for the most impressive cooks or homeowners with dining rooms. It is for anyone willing to use the gifts that God has given them for His kingdom. You are welcome to host, even if what you have to offer isn’t the same as someone else.
