Community Groups are elemental Christian communities. We believe that deep relationships in transient cities like Boston are cultivated in community groups. They are gatherings of 5 to 12 people meeting in individual's homes and apartments throughout the City during the week. In Community Groups, people come to know God and to experience His presence, community is developed and fostered, and people are nurtured, equipped and released for God's work in the world. They provide an opportunity for intimacy, mutual support, practical love and service, learning about the Christian faith, prayer, and sharing. They are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who are given on-going pastoral support. They are the primary place where one is "known" at Citylife. For a large church like Citylife, community groups are essential. Without them it is hard to foster deep meaningful relationships.
A rough outline of what goes on each month at community group:
2 weeks per month – Worship/Prayer, Study, Community
1 week per month – Meal together/Community OR Social Justice service project
1 week per month - Church-wide Night of Reflection (Prayer)
